A few years ago, when electronic music was booming, I used to attend clandestine concerts, almost always in places far from the city, in some ranch or abandoned house.
Over time I got married and stopped attending these types of events, but three years ago, I decided to attend a Halloween-themed electronic music party. Even though I'm boring, I decided to go at the insistence of my husband, who had become very excited about the event.
We prepared our costumes well in advance, it was nothing out of the ordinary, I was dressed as a witch, well, at least the idea I had in my head at that time about them, and my husband, since he is very tall, dressed up as Frankenstein's monster, you can imagine, a 1.95m tall man with platforms, he was really scary.
There were also a few more friends who were in fact the ones who were insisting that we attend the event. They were three friends who were dressed up as the fairies that appear in the film Sleeping Beauty, which suited them very well, they looked very original.
They didn't tell us the exact location where the concert would be, they just gave us some points where there would be signs to follow. We are originally from Querétaro and there were rarely concerts of this type. Before I got married, I used to go to Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco or Mexico City, because these types of events were held there.
We hit the road in my husband's truck. I don't like to be superstitious, but that night I had a feeling that something was wrong, and in fact things went wrong from the beginning, because when we stopped to get gas, we noticed that one of the tires was flat. My husband had a spare tire, he changed it and wanted to continue, even though I suggested that we turn back.
It took us about 45 minutes to find the spot, it was one of those places you always pass by when you are on the road, a place of crops and dirt gaps.
We headed down the dirt road, from there the whole road was decorated with pumpkins with candles inside. It wasn't long before we heard the blaring of horns and came across other parked cars. My friends had a bottle of vodka and had been drinking the whole way, so as soon as we arrived they entered the party.
My husband and I don't drink alcohol at all, especially at parties. We only lasted a couple of hours dancing, when one of my friends got sick, we escorted her away from the stage and she started throwing up. While we waited for her to recover, my husband told me to look in the distance at a tree.
I didn't waste any time and looked in the direction he indicated. There were five luminous spheres in the top of the tree. We saw them descending through the branches. It caught our attention so much that we decided to get closer to the tree, because we thought it was perhaps part of the show, although it didn't make sense for this show to be held so far from the stage.
Up close I saw that the tree's bark had a certain strange appearance; now that I think about it, no other tree in the area looked like it.
The thing was, once we were at the foot of the tree, we looked up, the flashes stopped a few meters away from us, I started to feel very cold, but it was a different cold, I don't know how to explain it, it felt different, it made my skin crawl; my husband experienced the same sensation.
Before I knew it, my friend, who had recovered, was standing right next to us, also looking up at the top of the tree. In fact, it was she who noticed that there was someone at the bottom of those luminous spheres, and shouted for us to look.
They were five short women, with white, wrinkled skin, looking at us with those horrible eyes. In fact, the whole expression on their faces was terrifying. I couldn't give a detailed explanation, but I can assure you that they were not human.
“Witches!” my friend and husband shouted at the same time.
We backed away until we hit another tree. I felt something grab my hair very tightly, almost to the point that I felt like it was going to be ripped out. I looked up and there was another one of those horrible witches. I don't know how, but I managed to get away. I grabbed my husband and we ran. Until we reached the area where the event was taking place.
I didn't realize that my two friends had been left behind. I asked my husband to go get them. Obviously, he refused. He said, "Well, go get them yourself."
There I was, hesitating whether to go back or not, I was so afraid that if it weren't for my husband I would already be on my way home. After a while hesitating between leaving or waiting to see if they would return, they came running, with all their makeup dripping and their costumes torn.
We asked them what had happened. One of them, the one who had been vomiting, could not control herself, she was shaking and crying, so my other friend told us what had happened:
“When you ran, Erica got stuck in one of those branches, I tried to help her, then those witches surrounded us and we heard their screams.
If only they had heard them! Their voices were so horrible that they paralyzed me. All I could do was hug Erica and start praying. I didn't want to look at them. I felt like they were pulling my hair and clothes. Of all this, what I couldn't stand was their voices, if those screams could be called voices. I felt like they were piercing my head.
Suddenly we heard a louder sound, something like a lightning bolt, which made the witches let go of us and run away. We took advantage of this and ran without looking back until we found them.”
They looked very bad, they were even still shaking. We slipped through the crowd until we reached the van. I don't know if it was because I was already so upset, but the whole way there I felt like they were chasing us, which caused me to stop from time to time on the road to look at the sky, behind me and to the sides.
My husband got desperate and asked me to run to the van. I hadn't realized that the distance from the parking lot to the event was very long. On the way we were stopped by some men who looked bad.
I thought they were going to attack us or something, but no, in fact, the bad look they had was because the witches also attacked them, because as soon as they saw us, they told us not to approach the parking lot, since that was where these beings had attacked them.
My husband and I looked at each other, as if wondering what we would do. We gathered our courage and I suggested that we all pray together, and we also picked up a few branches and stones from the road.
We arrived at the parking lot and didn't see anything at first glance, however, when we reached the truck, which we parked in front of a tree, we saw one of those creatures, as if it had merged with the branches. We dropped the rocks and branches, then ran to the truck, and heard that horrible scream again.
Fortunately, we managed to get out on the road without running into those creatures again, and believe me, I spent the whole trip looking in the rearview mirror in case one of them was following us.
Shortly after, we learned that the event ended abruptly, because there was a power outage and some people were injured. I can't stop thinking that those beings were the cause of that damage.
Today, I know that my costume was far from resembling that of a real witch. Fortunately, I have never had a real Halloween like that again.
