While I am thinking about how to tell you this, from the other side of my room, to be more specific, from my daughter’s room, I can hear the voices of someone my daughter calls them, Pari and Tari…. What is most disturbing about all this is that it is 2 in the morning and in the house there are only me and my daughter. Now I understand why she has been telling me so much that she does not want to sleep alone anymore.

I think one of the best ways I can start this is to give you a little context of our situation.

We live in a municipality called Gorabad, which is now a large municipality that has been growing little by little. I decided to separate from my husband a few weeks ago for personal reasons. I will only mention that he was not the right person for me, and he was not the best father for my daughter either.

I still have a strong scar on my face from her, which I will have to carry for a while and which today has left me, apart from the pain, with disturbing looks from everyone around me. In fact, you could say that the feeling you get when you are being watched was what made me realize that in the house we rented there were not just the two of us.

I got a small house, located in one of the most profitable areas to live in Kalna (Gorabad), the rent was very cheap despite being furnished, I quickly got a job as a cashier in a supermarket, and I could leave my three-year-old daughter at day-care. Every day after leaving work I would pick her up and try to spend some quality time together in the park before returning home. We didn't have many things, no radio, no television, so it was a bit boring to stay at home. In fact, the first day we stayed there we slept together.

That night was when I started hearing strange sounds in the house. I could only imagine that they were just noises, but I can assure you that today I hear them in a different way. I could hear someone on the other side of our room, they were talking to each other, I thought it was the neighbours, although our little house was far from the house next door, it was very likely that they could be heard in such a way that they were so close to us.

That's when I heard laughter among themselves, I got up to go check, I looked at the time on my cell phone and it was already after eleven at night, I made sure my daughter didn't fall out of bed, I went to look outside the house. It was freezing, very windy, I looked at the side of the house and I didn't see anything or anyone, in fact the whole street was dark and lonely, so I decided to go back and leave my things aside.

Just as I got to my room I saw something that completely froze my blood, my daughter was standing right on the corner of the bed, with her eyes closed, she was asleep but standing, I ran to her to grab her because she began to sway, I managed to hold her, she hadn't even realized because she was still asleep when we were on the floor, a little later than I would have arrived and perhaps she would have already had a strong blow to her head.

The next morning while we were having breakfast I asked my daughter if she remembered waking up in the middle of the night, and with her limited words she said no, she hadn't gotten up . I thought at the time that perhaps my husband and I's separation was already affecting her. We left early to go to day-care and I went to work.

In the afternoon, we had to return home much earlier, because a storm was approaching, and in Gorabad the rains are very strong, I didn't want to take any risks. So we quickly arrived at the house and when we opened it we found something that left me quite surprised.

All the drawers, cupboards and kitchen doors were open and cereal was spilled on the floor. Someone had intentionally dumped it on the floor. The funny thing, if you could say so, is that the cereal reached my daughter's room. My first thought was that someone had robbed us, so I quickly ran to my room and looked for our few savings, which were intact.

– What happened here, Mommy? – my daughter asked me, so I just said… Rats, very big rats . I intended to clean up at that moment, but the rain came quite hard causing the light to go out. I lit a couple of candles that I had found in the closet that was in my daughter’s room. I gave her dinner before we went to bed, that’s when I remembered that I hadn’t checked the girl’s room.

I had only seen the cereal arriving there. As soon as my daughter finished dinner, I turned on the lamp on my phone to go to the room. There was nothing strange there, my daughter's bed was untouched, there was cereal scattered on the floor. I told her it was time for us to go to sleep, and that we would have to sleep in her bed that night, but I wouldn't leave her alone that night, and she happily said yes. I set the alarm on my phone to get up in the middle of the night and be able to clean, when without realizing it we both fell deeply asleep.

A couple of whispers woke me up, I was startled, because I could clearly hear laughter and the voices of two girls, I looked at my daughter and she was asleep.

I looked at my daughter's bedroom door and could only see pure darkness. This was already scaring me, when I could see a slight glow flickering, I had forgotten to turn off the candles, nothing was happening, the wax would just run out and go out and at that moment a phone call came through on my cell phone, I quickly lowered the volume and the scariest thing about all this was that when I saw where the call came from, it came from my own house.

Someone had taken the living room phone and was calling me on my cell phone. Trembling with fear, I answered. Without saying a word, I brought the phone to my ear and heard someone breathing on the other end. Then I heard the word “Don’t turn them off.”

It was like a whisper, but she had trouble speaking. I didn't know what it was, when I decided to get up to close the door to my daughter's room and then I could hear something quite chilling.

I could hear someone walking on the cereal on the floor, and it wasn't just one person, several more footsteps could be heard and whatever it was was getting closer to the room where we were sleeping. I had to get up and close the door, because it was getting closer, I could hear it, and I was sure that if I closed the door there was a good chance I would find something in front of me.

And if I didn't, that thing would come into the room. So without thinking twice I quickly got up, grabbed the door and eager to see something approaching in the darkness I could see the silhouette of two small people standing very close to our room. I quickly closed it and grabbed my cell phone to call the police.

– I’m calling the police right now, get out! – I shouted at them and from the other side of the door you could hear the laughter of some girls. I was leaning on the door to keep anyone out, I had my cell phone in my ear, they still didn’t answer and they started shaking the door.

It wanted to get in, it was banging on the door loudly, and I finally got an answer from the police. Crying and screaming, I called for help. The police didn't take long to arrive, the noises and the things that were happening stopped almost instantly. The police took my statement about what had happened, in fact they were kind enough to stay with us to look after the place so we could get some rest.

However, I didn't sleep much, as I was feeling quite upset. I got up just before my cell phone alarm went off and started cleaning. The light had already come back on, so that helped me calm down a bit more. I constantly looked out into the street to see if the patrol car was still there.

It was already dawn, my daughter was already having breakfast when one of the policemen knocked on the door, mostly to mention that they were leaving, but before anything else he said something to me that left me a little uneasy…

– I recommend that you look for another place, ma’am. This is usually a place prone to flooding. It was even in this area four years ago where there was a landslide, the mud and rocks got into the houses, and many people could not be rescued.

I thanked her for the recommendation, so I thought about looking for a more suitable place for us, but I didn't have all the resources to do so. That day I decided not to go to work, I was feeling very tired so I told my daughter that I would sleep a little while she played in her room.

I had a strange dream, as I could see people trying to get out of the ground, I saw people's hands coming out of the ground, and their screams were coming from deep within the ground. My daughter woke me up at that moment. I wanted to eat.

While we were eating I kept thinking about my dream, I thought I had been influenced by the policeman's comments, when my daughter broke my concentration with something she said to me...

– Mommy, I don’t like my room anymore – She told me very seriously.

– Why, is something wrong? – My little girl wasn’t looking at me while she was telling me this, she was still eating.

– I don’t want to play with those two girls anymore – She pointed to the other side and I immediately turned around but I didn’t see anyone.

– But there is no one there, love, is something wrong? –

– They fight a lot and they itch my face, I don’t like them fighting.

I didn't know what to answer her. On the one hand I imagined it was some story or tale that they had told her at day-care, but even so, she was too young to create a story or tell lies.

– They told me not to turn off the light – my daughter suddenly said, pointing to the candles. I remembered that I had found them in my daughter’s room, and without thinking twice, I ran to grab the candles to light them, I took them to my daughter’s room and when I opened it I could see something that I hadn’t paid attention to.

The mud marks were still there, it seemed that the landslide had been so strong that it managed to get into the room. Something pulled at my dress, my daughter was next to me.

– This is where they play – Pointing to the closet, she retreated to continue playing but now in my room. I left the candles lit in there.

Later, I wanted to continue with the daily routine as normal, it was necessary to distract ourselves a little, so I told my daughter that we were going to the park and she went to get ready. Already in her room while I was combing her hair, the matter about the night before was already passing me by, I had her sitting on my legs, while I was combing her hair she looked at herself in the mirror, that was when I felt a shiver down my back.

– Mommy, one of them wants to climb on your back! – I didn’t quite understand what she meant and immediately through the mirror I could see one of those girls standing on the bed and behind me, her hand was touching my back, I immediately moved away, grabbed my daughter and we left quickly.

I didn't know what to do anymore, this situation was upsetting me, I didn't have the necessary resources to leave that house. And the worst thing was that I was already considering asking my daughter's father for help and that was the last thing I wanted to happen. I decided to go and seek help from a father and get some advice on what was happening to us.

Not far from there we found a temple, and fortunately the priest was very kind to us, he listened to everything I had to say and promised me that he would soon go to bless the home and for the time being he would take holy water to distribute it around the house.

I decided to give it a try, it was the only thing I could do and with what we had at the time.

At home, I asked my daughter to go to my room and wait for me there. I lent her my cell phone so she could distract herself a little while I blessed the house. I took the bottle with holy water and poured it on the floor, on the furniture, the entire kitchen and whatever else was in front of me and while I prayed I said the following:

– May all those evil spirits go away from here.

I got to my daughter's room and there I did it with more effort, and I don't know if I make myself understood, but I had the feeling that someone was watching me when I did it, in fact when I was in the kitchen I could see out of the corner of my eye someone watching me from my daughter's room. I stood for a moment in the entrance and between tears and sighs I said:

– Please let us stay, I know it is not our house, but my daughter and I have nowhere else to go now.

I wasn't expecting an answer, and if someone had answered me I swear I would have died of fright. I took out my daughter's clothes and several toys, leaving some on the floor, and closed the door after that.

I don't know if that worked, but it's been a few days now, and things have calmed down quite a bit. At night we only hear some noises of someone moving things around in the room and we can hear them playing with each other, but nothing more has happened. However, my daughter has already told me that she has seen them walking around the house, they have spoken to her and told her their names, and I have tried not to forget the lit candles.

I think that for the moment we learned to live together, perhaps things were not as calm as I expected, but without many resources I can't do more, and I imagine that there is someone out there with a similar situation, who can't leave where they live and there is no other way than to learn to live with that which we do not know... and lose our fear of it.
