Mom was lying in bed, fast asleep, when she was woken by a loud roar. She jumped up and got goosebumps. A chill ran down her spine.
Were there burglars in the house or perhaps even worse accomplices?
The roar rang out again. It seemed to be coming from the children's room.
Mom was afraid for her little son Emil, who was sleeping there.
She immediately jumped out of bed, armed herself with a sneaker, as she couldn't find anything else to defend herself and her child, and ran into the room opposite. In doing so, she stepped on some building blocks lying on the floor, tripped over a toy box and fell flat on her face.
There was another roar. This time the source was close to her head. Mom got up, rushed to the wall and pressed the light switch. There
was no sign of a burglar. She couldn't see anything worse. She was alone.
"Emil, where are you?"
She panicked. Had someone kidnapped her son and left the apartment with him at that very moment?
The loud roar was heard again. The wardrobe door opened and Emil jumped out.
"Grrrrrrr! Roarrrr!" he said, showing his little teeth grimly. On his head was the mop that he had probably secretly borrowed from the storage room.
"I'm a dangerous monster and I'm going to eat you up now," he shouted and threw himself laughing at Mama, who felt a huge weight lift from her heart at that moment.
"You're a fine monster," she said with relief. "You gave me quite a fright."
She took the mop from his head and sent Emil to bed.
"Now it's time to go back to sleep. You can play monster again tomorrow."
