Google users are warned of a new scam: don't do this under any circumstances
Internet scams have been common in recent years, with new phishing attempts to trick users into falling into the trap. This time, Google users have been warned to use Google Calendar and Google Drawings .
It was the Check Point company, specialized in cybersecurity, that gave the warning, after verifying that hundreds of companies have been affected by this scam through these applications. It consisted of sending emails with fraudulent links that simulated legitimate events and forms . In addition, the senders' email was adapted so that the notification appeared to come from known contacts of the victims.
According to the company , the links included a link or an attachment in .ics format from the calendar application , which directed to Google Drawings. However, when accessing these, another link was subsequently displayed, which turned out to be a fake reCAPTCHA. After clicking on this last link, the user was redirected to websites related to cryptocurrencies, and once there, they were asked for personal data and bank details.
Phishing is a technique used by cybercriminals to impersonate an entity in order to steal personal information from victims. To avoid this, users are urged not to open emails, text messages or WhatsApp messages from unknown users, as well as not to reply with confidential information, and to use antivirus software to protect their devices .
