The following story was shared by a Doctor who worked for a time at
Centro Médico de Occidente in the city of Guadalajara.
I request that you maintain the greatest possible discretion, in
addition to safeguarding the personal data of those involved. The story is
known among the inmates and other doctors, so the names of those mentioned in
the story have been eliminated. From this moment on, the story will be told as
if the doctor himself were telling the story.
During the summer nights I was assigned to stand guard in the maternity
ward at the Centro Medico de Occidente. The maternity ward has always been a
very busy place at all hours, we received approximately more than thirty
pregnant women with some problem or about to give birth. But one night while I
was on guard duty the atmosphere was very calm.
This happened to me many years ago before the Pandemic hit, relatives
could stay and wait in the waiting room, it had just finished raining and
things looked like they would be calm.
We didn't have any patients at the time and everything was empty so I
told the nurse and the receptionist to take their break right then and I would
stay on guard.Horror stories
However, not even five minutes had passed when a woman came asking for
help. I asked her what was happening and she looked at me with a downcast
expression and a very pale face. She told me that her baby was about to be born
and that she needed someone to help her.
I saw that she was quite exhausted, so I decided to take her details
for later and I took her in for a check-up. I called the nurse several times,
but to no avail, as well as the receptionist.
As I was unsuccessful, I went back in to check on the lady, but to my
surprise she was no longer there. I was disconcerted as the only exit was where
I was talking on the phone. Then I heard some voices coming closer, it was the
receptionist and the nurse.
I told them that I had a patient who was lost somewhere, she couldn't
go very far, so I asked for their help to look for the lady.
Several minutes passed and we didn't find her. The receptionist had the
idea of going to check the surveillance to consult the security cameras,
while we waited to see if the lady returned. However, that didn't happen. The
receptionist came back and asked me to talk for a moment.
He told me that the security video would come out, but it didn't show
who he was talking to or who I was talking to. I asked him to see the videos in
person, so he took me to where they had the recordings and I could see that he
was talking to himself. They suggested that I go take a break, but I was very
sure of what I saw. That was the only thing that happened to me that day.

Some time later, but not long after what happened to me, I had to do
night shift again, however this time I was doing rounds of the beds of the
patients who were hospitalized. I had five patients who were resting, it had
barely struck two in the morning when I heard one of my patients call me, I ran
to see what she needed and I almost screamed when I saw the patient who
disappeared some time ago lying there.
She was telling me to help her because her baby was about to be born. I
didn't move at all. I heard her loud and clear, she was almost yelling at me to
help her because her baby was about to be born. That's when it occurred to me
to do perhaps the stupidest thing I could have done in my profession. I asked
her if she was real. She kept looking at me, asking for help and crying at the
same time. I touched her leg with my hand and sure enough, it was a person.
That made me wake up from my trance and tell her that I heard her and
that I would indeed help her. Inside I thought that maybe it was true that I
was very tired and that I imagined things, I took my stethoscope and wanted to
listen to the baby's heart, but I couldn't hear it, in fact, I couldn't hear
any pulse, I looked at the Mother and saw that haggard and dejected face that I
had seen before.
I told her that I wouldn't take long, I would go get help. I quickly
went to get the nurses to help me move her to another room for a more thorough
and accurate examination, but when I got to them, the bed was empty. The first
thing I thought was that history was repeating itself again and that something
was happening to me. The nurses asked me about the woman's whereabouts, to
which I told them to go check the security cameras.
As if it were a fucking joke, there I was alone taking vital data in
bed. I told them not to say anything, I knew very well that I wasn't tired or
in any discomfort, but rather that I needed to get some fresh air.
After taking a break, I returned to the table where this woman, or
perhaps her ghost, had been. I felt overwhelmed for a moment when I realized
that my mind was playing tricks on me again. I would ask for a vacation the
next day so I could distract myself.
I went to the nurseries for a moment, we didn't have any babies at that
time, and when I was about to leave, there was that woman standing in the
hallway, but she was no longer pregnant. I was so scared that I couldn't help
but jump from the fright that it gave me, I told her several times to leave me
alone, that she didn't have to torment me. That's when she asked me something
that made me uneasy...
-Doctor, where is my baby? - her voice sounded dark and fragile at the
same time, I got as far away from her as possible but she started walking
towards me, I didn't intend to wait to see what would happen if I stayed there,
so I went out the other door to go somewhere else where there were more
colleagues, that was where I met the receptionist and another doctor.
They saw that I was very agitated and distressed, and they asked me if
I was okay. I could barely speak to them. That's when I told them what I saw on
the other side, right next to the nurseries, but when the receptionist was
about to go and see, the doctor who was there stopped her.
She asked me to try to keep my composure because what I saw was
something that other doctors also experienced. It was the spirit of a mother
who died when she came to ask for help. The baby was already lifeless when they
removed it during the cesarean section.
However, she was still conscious when she realized how the Baby was
born, she wanted to hold him, even so, but she was so desperate that she tried
to get up and began to bleed until she went into shock, unfortunately the woman
also died.
But lately it was said that this woman appeared around these dates at
the medical center asking for help.
Those who had seen her simply gave her access and forgot about her, but
it was the first time that this soul had gone so far.
I went back to see if that woman was still there, but I didn't see her
anymore, this gave me some relief so I prepared to return to my station.
It was almost dawn, a few minutes before I had to hand in my shift, I
was doing my report. Normally the general room for doctors is open to all
staff, but I liked to keep it closed so I could fully concentrate.
As I was transcribing my information I heard a noise near me, I was
still feeling a bit nervous so I quickly turned around to take a look, but I
didn't see anything. I continued writing, but this time I could clearly hear
someone saying my name in a very low voice, I thought maybe a nurse was looking
for me.
I didn't want to answer because I didn't want to be interrupted until I
finished my reports. But then, a little more clearly and in a woman's voice, I
heard someone behind me saying...
Where is my baby?
My blood ran down to the floor, but now that I knew what had happened I
remained calm, turned off the computer monitor and could see in the reflection
the woman I had met before.
I didn't want to answer her, I tried to ignore her by getting up from
there, I hurried to pick up my things, but she kept insisting with her question
about where her baby was.
I didn't want this to drag on any longer, so I thought I'd go ask the
Doctor who told me the story of the Ghost Woman,
He told me that the bodies of the mother and the baby were never
recovered, their bodies remained in the amphitheater for study, and that it was
very likely that they had already been discarded, but that this had already
happened many years ago.
Now with the information they had given me, I returned to the office,
locked myself, locked the door and sat on the chair, waiting for that woman to
ask me again about her baby. I was extremely nervous, I didn't know if it would
work or what would happen. Maybe nothing would happen and what I was doing was
something stupid or ridiculous, but I had to try.
It was when a very soft voice spoke to me by my full name and then
asked me about her baby. I took a deep breath and could see through the
reflection of a mirror that we have there that this lady was behind me. I
closed my eyes and prepared to tell her in the calmest way possible. I tried to
do it as best as I could and in the most respectful way.
When I finished I remained silent, I didn't know what answer she would
give me, so I continued telling her that I would offer a mass in her name and
in her Baby's name so that they could find eternal rest.
I didn't have a response as such either. I opened my eyes and that
woman was no longer behind me.
That weekend I kept my promise, even in the evenings I light a candle
to give her the light she would need. I asked God for the soul of this
tormented woman and that she find eternal rest.
Several years have passed since then, my story has been passed from mouth to mouth, and I have certainly heard several versions, but the one that everyone agrees with is the one that mentions that the woman was looking for her Baby.
